Frequently Asked Questions About Our Local Citations Service

Straight answers about pricing, process, timelines, and what citations can and can’t do — organized by topic so you can find what you need fast.

The Basics

What citations are, and what our local citations service actually covers.

What is a local citation?
A local citation is any online listing of your business’s name, address, and phone number (NAP) — usually on a directory, map platform, or industry site — that search engines use to confirm your business is real, active, and located where you say it is.
What does a local citations service actually do?
A local citations service builds new listings where your business is missing, corrects listings that already exist but are wrong, and verifies that your NAP data stays accurate and consistent across the directories that matter for your industry and location.
What’s the difference between citation building, an audit, and cleanup?
Building creates new listings where none exist yet. An audit diagnoses what’s already out there — accurate, wrong, or duplicated — across your current footprint. Cleanup fixes what the audit finds. If you’re not sure which applies to you, start with a free audit; it tells you exactly what you need before you spend on anything else.
Do I need citations if I already have a Google Business Profile?
Yes, though it’s a common misconception that GBP alone is enough. Google and other platforms cross-check your business data against other directories to decide how much to trust a listing. One accurate Google Business Profile isn’t enough on its own if other directories show conflicting information.
How many citations does my business actually need?
There’s no fixed number that applies to every business. What matters more is that the directories you’re listed on are relevant to your industry and location, and that your data is consistent across all of them. Our audit determines the right number and the right directories for your specific business.

Pricing & Packages

What affects cost, and how our packages are structured.

How much does your local citations service cost?
Pricing depends on how many citations your business needs and how complex your existing footprint is. We offer package tiers based on citation count — see our Pricing page for current tiers, or request a free audit and we’ll recommend the right package for your situation.
What affects the price of a citation package?
The number of directories involved, how many existing incorrect listings need fixing, industry-specific directory requirements, and how competitive your local market is all factor into scope. We explain what’s driving the price before you commit to anything.
Is this a one-time fee or an ongoing subscription?
Citation building and cleanup are one-time projects scoped to your footprint. NAP Consistency monitoring is the only ongoing service we offer, and it’s optional — directory data can drift out of sync over time even after an initial cleanup, so some clients choose to monitor it continuously rather than re-auditing periodically.
Do you offer discounts for multi-location businesses?
Multi-location pricing is scoped separately since the work scales with the number of locations rather than a flat per-business rate. Contact us with your location count and we’ll put together a package that reflects the actual scope.
What happens if a directory submission is rejected or doesn’t go live?
We review the rejection reason and resubmit with a correction where the issue is fixable. This is reflected in your final report rather than a silently dropped listing — you’ll always know the true status of every listing we attempted.

Process & Timeline

How the work actually happens, and how long it takes.

How long does citation building or cleanup take?
Timelines vary by how many directories are involved and how quickly each individual directory reviews and publishes submissions — some go live within days, others take longer, and that final step is outside any vendor’s control. We give you a realistic estimate once we know your scope.
Is the work really done manually, and how would I know?
Every listing is submitted by a person, not automated bulk software, and verified again after it goes live. You receive a login or screenshot for each listing as proof, so you can check the work yourself rather than relying on a summary count.
What information do you need from me to get started?
Your exact, current business name, address, phone number, website, business categories, and service area. We confirm this with you directly before submitting anything, since an error in the source data would propagate into every listing we build.
Will I get a report of what was done?
Yes. Every project includes a record of each listing: the directory, the live URL, and login access or a screenshot where the directory provides one — so you can independently verify the work rather than trusting a summary number.

Results & Expectations

What citations can realistically do for your business — and what they can’t.

Will citations get my business to rank #1?
No single service can honestly promise a #1 ranking — local search results depend on many factors, including your website, reviews, and overall market competitiveness. Citations support trust and consistency signals, but they won’t outweigh a weak website or a highly competitive market on their own. We’ll tell you honestly if your situation needs more than citation work.
Are local citations still worth it in the age of AI search?
Yes. Consistent business data matters for traditional local search rankings and increasingly for AI-assisted local search tools, which also cross-check NAP data to confirm and recommend a business. That said, in highly competitive markets, citations alone won’t outweigh weak content or reviews — we’ll tell you honestly if that’s your situation.
